Well the concussion bug going around the National Hockey League has struck the New York Islanders once again. This time its Steve Staios who is suffering concussion symptoms, and he will be sidelined for at least tonights game. In response the Islanders recalled 2009 first round pick Calvin de Haan, who will make his NHL career debut tonight at the Nassau Coliseum against the Dallas Stars. So far this season de Haan has posted up eight points and earned a minus-1 rating in twenty-two games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He has been pretty good, but its fairly obvious that he needs a little more time before he is given a full-time role at the NHL level. Along with de Haan the NY Islanders decided to call-up goaltender Kevin Poulin. Poulin, who was just up two days ago, will start tonight for the Islanders in his NHL season debut and his eleventh career NHL start. So far this year Poulin's stats at the AHL level haven't been what he'd like with a 3.37 GAA and a 0.892 save percentage, but I expect him to improve going forward with the added ice-time he will be getting. His call-up was made possible by Rick DiPietro being placed on the Injured Reserve with a strained groin. Things are beginning to look extremely bleak for the career of Rick DiPietro, and in my opinion its quite possibly the worst its ever looked.
