Reaction:
After being acquired by the Philadelphia Flyers, Nicklas Grossmann stepped up into top-pairing minutes immediately. The new high-tension environment that is Philadelphia hockey hasn't phased Grossmann in the least. He has done very well, and has received praise from many Flyers officials.

At 6'4 & 230 pounds, he is an imposing physical force who knows how to effectively use his size as he currently leads all Flyer defensemen in hits with 164. His positioning is fantastic and it has made him one of the more dependable players in the league. With the absence of captain Chris Pronger, the Flyers' defensive corps lacked a real crease clearer, but in Grossmann they have a defenseman that has perfected it. As expected for someone as good in his own end as Grossmann is, he has a lot of success on the penalty kill. With the second most blocked shots on the Flyers, it is clear that he is willing to sacrifice his body for the team and in the playoffs that is going to be extremely important.

The Flyers have liked their acquisition of Grossmann and are willing to commit to him for the long-term. Considering the lack of pending unrestricted free-agent defensemen available this off-season, this contract is more than reasonable. In the midst of his prime, he would have commanded more on the open market.
