Before today's Islanders game, owner Charles Wang answered some key questions from Howie Rose. Watch the video below...
Key Topics Discussed:
Spending Money This Off-Season:
He made it clear that it isn't about spending a lot of money, it is about acquiring the right players. With that said, it definitely sounds like this off-season will be similar to years past. He mentions that many of the Islanders homegrown players (Bailey, Okposo, Tavares, etc.) are becoming veterans themselves and they would do an adequate job leading the club. Basically meaning that we shouldn't expect many outside additions which is very disappointing.
Needed Changes:
When asked about what needs to be changed to make this team competitive, Wang said that he believes nothing significant needs to done. He thinks that if they learn from this year, and maybe add some stability on the back-end they'll be good. The common theme was that they will look at players coming up through the system as additions for next season. Expect a decent amount of kids to make the club next season.
Future of Jack Capuano & Garth Snow:
He didn't even hesitate when the question was brought up, he was in full support of them. He confirmed that both Garth Snow and Jack Capuano will return next season. When asked about his thoughts on their performance he said this: "I think they've done a very good job and I have complete confidence in them". Personally, I disagree with him regarding Jack Capuano's performance behind the bench. His lack of control and team preparedness, has been a major problem.
