Thoughts
The Calgary Flames have signed twenty-three year old, Brady Lamb, to a one-year entry level contract. Lamb, who grew up in Calgary, will report to the Abbotsford Heat (Flames AHL affiliate) on an Amateur Try-Out and then next season his NHL contract will begin.

Brady Lamb plays a very solid two-way game from the back-end. He can move the puck well, and this season was used as the power play quarterback for the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He also has an above-average shot that has been a real asset from the point. His offensive game has improved through his four year collegiate career. He has always been a very impressive defenseman in his own-end on the defensive side of the puck. He is built physically, and is more than willing to use that size efficiently. Along with his physical style of defending, he also has a gritty, take-no-garbage mentality. As expected with a good defensive zone defenseman, he see's a lot of penalty kill time. He became one of UMD's best penalty killers with his good shot blocking ability and his knack of getting his stick into the passing lanes. His all-around ability is extremely useful, and has been made even more successful due to his above-average skating. His acceleration has been a big asset in breakouts, and has enabled him to find all possible passing lanes.

Brady Lamb has the talent to be a decent NHL player. He may not be an amazing one, but he has potential and a good current skill level. He may need one season in the American Hockey League, but within three years I fully expect him to reach the NHL full-time.

Thoughts
The Anaheim Ducks have signed Ryan Hegarty to a two-year entry level contract. Earlier this morning, the Syracuse Crunch — Anaheim's AHL Affiliate — signed Hegarty to an Amateur Try-Out for the rest of the season and then next year he will begin his NHL contract. He just completed his senior year at the University of Maine.

Ryan Hegarty plays a very quiet yet effective game. He doesn't have much offensive ability, but he is competent enough to make a decent first pass. Once the play is in the offensive zone though, he looks a lot less comfortable. However, in his own end he is noticeably comfortable and very aware. His defensive zone positioning is fantastic, and he uses his stick to get into the passing lanes. On that side of the puck he has a great skill-set. If he could work on his offensive game, I think he'd be a good second pairing defenseman down the line. A solid comparison would be Andrew MacDonald of the New York Islanders.

He needs a lot of time in the minors before being a legitimate NHL prospect. By the end of his entry level contract, there will be a better handle on where is upside is.

Thoughts
The New Jersey Devils have signed twenty-one year old center, David Wohlberg to a two-year entry level contract. Wohlberg is coming off of a successful career at the University of Michigan.

David Wohlberg doesn't have any high end talent, but he plays a solid hard-working game. He is always moving his feet and is willing to play a physical style. His versatility will help him earn a bottom-six role at the NHL level. His great speed really allows him to be an effective forechecker and his size makes him a real threat to force some turnovers. His work ethic creates opportunities and should help him end up in the NHL in some capacity.

He will need a little bit of time in the American Hockey League to get acclimated to the pro game. Once he looks comfortable I believe he could jump right to the Devils' bottom-six forward group.
