(From: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/nhl/2011-03-19-4046129066_x.htm)"General manager Lou Lamoriello made the announcement on Saturday without disclosing contract terms.Hoeffel spent the past four seasons at the University of Minnesota, recording 13 goals and 11 assists this past season. He had career totals of 48 goals and 39 assists in 149 games played. The North Oaks, Minn. native was New Jersey's first choice (second round), and 57th overall selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft."
SCOUTING REPORT (C/O HF)
Hoeffel showed the ability to put the puck in the net last season and back when he was one of the top high school players in the state of Minnesota, but there seems to be a consensus that he will make a much more effective checker than scorer once he is fully developed, because has average hands around the net and his hockey sense is limited at the offensive end of the rink. That’s not to say that he can’t score at all, it’s just that he likely won’t be guy counted on to shoulder a lot of offensive responsibility at the highest levels. While his offensive ability may be in question, Hoeffel has plenty of other qualities that should help him become and effective role player. He is strong on his feet and is a top notch skater. He enjoys playing an intense, physical style and his motor always seems to be on high as he constantly keeps his feet moving, showing great energy and hustle. At 6'2, 186 lbs, he already has good size and as he grows into his frame and gets stronger, he should become an even more effective forechecker.

"Joe Sova, the offensive-minded junior defenseman signed an entry-level contract Friday with the National Hockey League’s New Jersey Devils, foregoing his senior season with the Nanooks. The Nanooks’ second-leading scorer didn’t reveal the terms of his contract during a telephone interview Saturday, but he said it was a two-year deal. He signed the contract Friday while he met with the Devils administration in the team’s headquarters at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. He is scheduled to head to Albany, N.Y., today to join New Jersey’s top minor-league club, the Albany Devils of the American Hockey League. Sova, a 6-foot-3, 203-pound blueliner from the Chicago suburb of Berwyn, Ill., said his decision to turn pro wasn’t easy and a lot of thought went into it. “I felt like it was a good opportunity to move on with my career and start something new,” the 22-year-old said Saturday night from the Prudential Center.""

(Taken From: http://oilers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=556605)
"General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with free agent forward Tanner House on a two-year contract. House, a Cochrane, Alberta native, just completed his senior year with the University of Maine Black Bears where he finished tied for 4th in team with 35 points (10G,25A) as well as 56 penalty minutes in 35 games. He won the Gladiator Hockey Best Defensive Forward in Hockey East with a +13 in league play, which ranked 10th among conference skaters."
TALENT ANALYSIS: (from coppernblue)
"At 6'1'' and 195 lbs., he's definitely big enough to play in the NHL and fits in with the Oilers mantra of getting bigger. He's also a smart cookie having won several academic awards in his time in college, which seems to be something that the Oilers are looking for in their players. To top it off, House has been the captain of his club for the last two seasons, which gives him the ever-important "leadership" on his CV (not to be confused with CVV whose lunch he's going to try to eat). On top of that, he fills a need. House was named the top defensive forward in Hockey East and the good Lord knows that the Oilers could sure use some players who know where to be in the defensive end, particularly at center. He's scored at about a point per game in his last two seasons at Maine, but that's basically the minimum required for a guy his age looking to make the jump to the NHL - he's not going to be an offensive threat at the pro level. In ten of the gamesheets, Maine helpfully noted the total faceoffs won and lost for each player (in the other sheets, the data is there, but you'd have to go through the play-by-play, and that feels like too much work right now), and while you won't get a great read on ability in just ten games, House took more draws than any of his teammates and won 59.6% of those 198 faceoffs, so it would seem that he has some ability there. I don't know that he'll ever be a good player in the NHL, but there's some chance that as of today Tanner House is the second best healthy center in the organization."
