Teemu Selanne At 40 Years Old, Ripping Up The NHL

Teemu Selanne Continuing His Annual Success
Wanna take a guess at who is currently 16th in points in all of the NHL? Here is a hint, he also led the league in goals in the 1992-93 season. If you were able to guess right, bravo, if not, I don't blame you....its Teemu Selanne. Selanne, who at 40 years young has been able to produce at a point per game rate, is proving that he can still be an elite player in this league. Every off-season it seems hockey insiders all speculate that he may call it a career but each and every time, Teemu proves them all wrong. Looking at his career, which still has some time left, he is as close to a lock for the Hall Of Fame as possible. Looking at all the hardware he has won through the years on it's own makes a convincing case but his impressive stats just push him into a special level on his own. In his career he has won the Calder Memorial Trophy, Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy, Bill Masterton Trophy, and has one Stanley Cup to his name. To add to all those, I would not be surprised to see him win something at this year's awards as he is having an incredible season. If you thought his award resume was impressive brace yourself for his all time stats, in 1243 NHL games played, he has 627 goals and 693 assists for 1320 points. One would think a player eventually would regress and slow down but after almost two decades since he played his first NHL game he is still playing dominant hockey. This season through 57 games, he has 21 goals and 39 assists for 60 points. This year marks the 16th time he has reached the 20 goal plateau in his career and the 11th time he has reached the 60 point plateau. If he keeps this up until the end of the season he will finish with around 80 points. Looking at other 40 year olds through the league you would be hard pressed to find one that is having even a fraction of the success Selanne has had this season. Teemu Selanne is having a great year for any hockey player but when you consider his age and what he has been through it makes this an incredibly remarkable performance by one of the best hockey players in history.
