"The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed defenseman Stefan Elliott to an entry-level contract.
Elliott, 20, led all Western Hockey League defensemen with 31 goals and tied for first with 81 points in 71 games for the Saskatoon Blades this season.  He was the first WHL blueliner to reach the 30-goal mark since 2006-07.  The Vancouver, B.C., native led the entire league in plus/minus with a +62 rating.
Colorado’s third selection (second round, 49th overall) in the 2009 Entry Draft, Elliott finished his junior career as the highest scoring defenseman in Blades franchise history, compiling 241 points (82g/159a) in 282 career games.  Elliott helped Saskatoon capture the league’s best record during the regular season and he and his teammates will face No. 8 seed Prince Albert in the first round of the WHL playoffs beginning this Saturday (March 26).
“Stefan is another one of our talented young defensemen in the Avalanche system,” said Avalanche General Manager / Executive Vice President Greg Sherman.  “He has put together a strong final season of junior hockey and we look forward to him beginning his pro career with our organization.”
“I’m really excited,” said Elliott.  “The Avalanche is a great young organization and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of that.  Right now, I’m looking forward to hopefully a long playoff run with Saskatoon.”"
THN SCOUTING REPORT:

ASSETS: Has excellent offensive instincts and the ability to quarterback a power play. Puts points up on the board. Also boasts a projectable frame and sound defensive qualities.
FLAWS: Needs to add bulk to his 6-1 frame and play a more physical game from behind the blue-line in order to maximize his NHL potential.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Potential offensive defenseman.

PATTYB ANALYSIS:
Stefan Elliott is a terrific young defenseman and it was pretty much a known fact that he would be extended an ELC so all that was still unknown was when. Elliott may see some time in the AHL but in my opinion he is VERY close to NHL ready. He has a big frame which along with his ability definitely makes it seem as though he will be manning the Avs blue line sooner rather than later.

"The Maple Leafs have signed 22-year-old forward Tyler Brenner to a two-year entry level contract.
Brenner, who will join the American Hockey League’s Toronto Marlies for the remainder of the season, spent the past three years with the NCAA’s Rochester Institute of Technology.
A 6-foot-2, 200-pound native of Linwood, Ont., Brenner had 41 points (26 goals and 15 assists) in 37 games for RIT this season. During a game this month, Brenner became the fifth player in RIT history to record 100 career points.
Brenner’s 26 goals led RIT and he also had a team-high 11 power-play goals. He was second in points.
Brenner is expected to make his Marlies debut on Wednesday on the road versus Grand Rapids."

PATTYB ANALYSIS:
He is a very complete player that's biggest advantage is the fact that he has goodsize yet very impressive skating. His offensive production is decent and he has some upside. Most likely he will not amount to an everyday NHL'er but he will be a big help to the Marlies.
