Trevor Gillies Back At It Again

Trevor Gillies At It Again

Trevor Gillies is back in the press box. In his first game back from his nine-game suspension resulting from the Isles-Penguins fight fest, he has earned another long ban. This time it's for 10 games and occurred in the game on March 2nd. In the 2nd period, the Wild's resident agitator, Cal Clutterbuck, hit Isles rookie Justin DiBenedetto with a dirty check which was called boarding. But Gillies decided that it was not enough, and his idea of revenge was to slam Clutterbuck's head into the glass. Right off the bat he was slapped with a 5 minute major for hitting from behind and a game misconduct. Of coarse given the circumstances many expected that he would have a run in with Colin Campbell soon after. That run-in occurred yesterday when Campbell and the NHL disciplinary committee had a face to face meeting with Gillies and decided hours after that he would be given a big ten-game suspension. This will mean that by the end of the year he will have been suspended for a total of 19 games. He has now earned the status amongst NHL fans as one of the dirtiest players in the league and to be honest I agree. I used to love Trevor Gillies but his recent shenanigans have changed my mind dramatically. He has turned into an embarrassment to the NY Islanders, as it's obvious his mind set has shifted to trying to hurt people rather than just protecting his teammates. It would be in the Isles best interest to pass on bringing him back for next season because of the fact that he has turned into a massive distraction for this already troubled Isles team.
