WIN: Isles 2-1 Wild
Record: 1-1-0
Summary:
This particular game started off for me a little bit differently than most Islanders games. As an Islanders intern, they offered me some volunteering opportunities which included helping hand out game day giveaways and I signed up for this game. I got there at 11 AM and began preparing. About 45 minutes before the game was scheduled to start was when the crowd began to arrive and I'll tell ya, it was not easy. I was stuck doing that until 10 minutes into the first period, at which point I was allowed to go to my seats. Of coarse during my time handing out the materials, I missed the first Islander goal of the season. As soon as I sat down though, I was able to see the Islanders score their second goal of the day. Those remaining ten minutes of the period were impressive, but when the 2nd period began the Isles looked like an entirely different team. They were timid and it showed as the team had only five shots in the final 40 minutes of play. If not for Al Montoya's terrific performance the game would have ended with a totally different result. Luckily for the Islanders, only one goal got past Montoya, which happened in the third period. Overall it was a pretty poor effort for the Islanders, and without their great 1st period performance, this would have been a loss.
Three Positive Players Of The Game:
1- Al Montoya-
He played incredibly well as he made an impressive 20 save effort, only letting up one goal. He made some very nice saves throughout the game and had he been off his game, the Islanders would have almost definitely had lost.
2- PA Parenteau-
He actually had one of the best games I have seen him play. He used his body well on the forecheck and made some very nice passes which led to both Islanders goals. He used his vision well and I am impressed with how comfortable he looked.
3- John Tavares-
I know he had no points and ended up a minus-1, but he looked FANTASTIC. He had three breakaways, where he was taken down or knocked off the puck. He made some beautiful passes which should have been finished by the pass receiver. His quickness was incredible and from that performance, I expect a lot of success from him if he keeps that up.
Three Negative Players Of The Game:
1- Josh Bailey-
For the 2nd game in a row, he was unimpressive and unfortunately this particular game was worse than the first. He made many mistakes with the puck and when he didn't have the puck he was floating. He didn't show any effort and honestly, I am disappointed with him/
2- Mike Mottau-
He just looks lost out there a bit, and his defensive zone coverage has been spotty at best. I am really hoping he picks up his play in the next few games.
3- Blake Comeau-
He looked uninterested, and I am sure playing with Josh Bailey didn't help that situation. He turned the puck over frequently and he has gotta be harder on the puck.
