Waiver Update-10/11/2011:
Blues CLAIM: Taylor Chorney (From: Edmonton) |
Reaction:
Taylor Chorney is a twenty-four year old defenseman whom has played a decent amount of NHL hockey. He is average sized at 5'11'', 182 pounds, but he uses his mobility to be successful at the NHL level. His play in his own end is subpar, but he has enough potential to make him a worthwhile pick-up. Then when you add in the fact that the Blues are a bit depleted on defense with Carlo Colaiacovo being placed on the IR just following the claim.
Predators CLAIM: Brian McGrattan (From: Anaheim) Predators WAIVE: Zach Stortini |
Reaction:
Brian McGrattan is a solid enforcer, but he doesn't have the skills to be an everyday NHL player. The same goes for Zach Stortini, but apparently the Predators believe McGrattan fits better on their club than Stortini. I don't believe that Zach Stortini will be claimed, but you never know.
Minnesota WAIVE: Eric Nystrom (Re-Entry) |
Reaction:
Eric Nystrom is a quality bottom-six forward. I was surprised to see that no one claimed him on regular waivers so its no surprise that I think he will definitely be picked up on re-entry waivers. He was a very high draft pick, and I think he has the potential (even at his older age of 28) to be a good player in this league. If the Isles didn't sign Jay Pandolfo, he would have been a great pick-up for the NYI. Unfortunately there is no room for him now.
