Hope Is Fading For The NY Islanders
Following the failed Coliseum referendum on August 1st, hope for the Islanders to stay in Uniondale was diminished, but was not entirely gone. Members of the Nassau County government made it clear that they were going to come up with another plan to keep the team here. Almost eight months later nothing substantial has developed, and little-to-no conversations have been held between the Isles and Nassau County. In the past week there have been a lot of reports about the future of the team and the Coliseum. B.D. Gallof and Islanders Point Blank, both reported that the possibility of the Isles leaving Nassau looks probable. Following that, reports began to leak about a possible asbestus problem in the Nassau Coliseum. In the past week or so, many people have begun to seriously face the realization that the NY Islanders will most likely be leaving Nassau County.
It is difficult to fathom that one of the most successful expansion teams in sports history could be moved, but I too am beginning to prepare myself for the end of our beloved hockey team. From what I have been told, the future of the Isles is dark. The talk lately has been about the possibility of them heading to Brooklyn, but from what I've heard there is nothing behind that as of now. Its an event to show the hockey world that the team is available, and that will likely attract many Canadian suitors. For the team to stay in the tri-state area they'd have to be right where they are now and as we all know that looks unlikely which means that as of now its leaning towards a far-distance move.
The Islanders have played a huge role in my life. When I was young there were three things that mattered to me; God, Family, and the Islanders. At seven years old, the Islanders helped me get over the most traumatic portion of my life where I lost a loved one in the 9/11 attacks and both my grandfather and grandmother in a span of 7 months. I leaned on the Islanders during that time, and I used them to help distract myself. Now my love of the team has actually given me a career direction as my internship with the club has paved my path towards my future job. The loss of the Islanders would hurt because of their importance to me as a person, but it is a harsh reality.
My advice to Islanders fans; don't listen to the reports just enjoy having the team now and don't take them for granted because they may not be around for much longer.
