Isles Sign John Grahame

NY Islanders Sign John Grahame For The Rest Of The Season
With Evgeni Nabokov presumably out for the rest of the season and Kevin Poulin needed down in Bridgeport for their playoff run, the Islanders decided to add a veteran netminder to back-up Al Montoya through the final five games of the season. The goaltender they chose to add was thirty-six year old, John Grahame.

After his playing career looked finished, Grahame decided to take an off-ice job this season as a goalie coach for the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL. For a thirty-six year old who last played in the NHL almost five years ago, he surely was not expecting to be signed by an NHL team, but because of some unexpected circumstances he will find himself dressed in an NHL game at least five more times. I don't think he will get to see any actual game play, but if he does it will definitely be something interesting to watch considering he hasn't played at all this season.

The contract is only for the remainder of the season (five games), so he was signed to be just a 'warm body' for the Isles to run out the rest of the year with.

This afternoon he passed his physical, so he will be joining the Islanders roster by tomorrow.
