Islanders Place Anton Klementyev On Unconditional Waivers
Following his refusal to report to the ECHL and subsequent signing with Lokomotiv in Russia, Anton Klementyev was placed on unconditional waivers by the Islanders.
Unconditional waivers, otherwise known as $125 waivers, is done to terminate a players contract. The player's, in this case Anton Klementyev's, rights are offered to every other club for the price of $125 and if no team chooses to take him he can be released. Normally the team buying out the player would not be allowed to do this in-season, but if the player does what Klementyev did as described in the CBA as "fail, refuse or neglect to render his services hereunder or in any other manner materially breach this (contract).", the team will be allowed to use $125 waivers out of the normal guidelines.
What all this means is that Klementyev is no longer Islanders property. Just as mysteriously as he was acquired being called a "stab in the dark" draft pick, he has left.
