Mike Comrie Retires From NHL

Mike Comrie Retires From The National Hockey League
This afternoon former Islander Mike Comrie announced that he will be retiring after having his third hip surgery in five years.

The 31-year-old played 589 NHL games while putting up 365 points. Since the Islanders traded him along with Chris Campoli to the Senators in 2009, he has struggled to stay healthy. After playing out the rest of that season with the Sens, he signed on with the Oilers (the team that drafted him) for the 2009-10 season before once again hitting free agency and signing with the Penguins for the 2010-11 season. Throughout that span of time he played only 86 games. During his tenure with the Islanders he put up impressive numbers on awful teams with 69 points in 117 games. Along with his career success, he also experienced a lot of personal success during his time on Long Island as he not only began his relationship with Hilary Duff during that time, but became engaged to her as well.

Although this announcement ends an erratic NHL career, he still is lucky enough to have his personal success. He and his wife, Hilary Duff, are expecting a son in March.
