Isles Closing In On Extension With Evgeni Nabokov
Last season the hockey world was laughing at the Islanders after goaltender, Evgeni Nabokov refused to report to their club after he was claimed on waivers from the Detroit Red Wings.
Almost a year later that same goaltender has been a huge piece of the Islanders push for a playoff spot and according to various insiders is currently negotiating an extension with Isles GM Garth Snow. It is a surprising turn of events and the change of heart that Nabokov has experienced sends a loud message around the league and to other players. Earlier in the week, Islanders beat writer Arthur Staple reported that Snow is staying firm on his stance to hold onto Nabokov as he envisions a Poulin and Nabby tandem going into next season. Chris Botta confirmed that as he reported this morning that although the Isles are offering both a one-year contract and a two-year contract, they are definitely pushing the two-year deal.
Its looking very likely that the Islanders will come to an agreement with Evgeni Nabokov and if it does in fact happen it will be another positive step for the Islanders organization.
