Islanders News & Notes: 9/15/2011
With training camp beginning on Saturday and Josh Bailey still unsigned, Islanders fans are getting a little worried. Garth Snow has set a deadline at 7am tomorrow morning for Bailey to sign with the Islanders. If he doesn't sign, he will have to sit out of hockey for one year. In my opinion, if Bailey is sitting there unsigned at 8am, look for him to be moved. This will be very interesting as Bailey still is full of potential, and I am hoping the Islanders are able to find a way to retain Bailey by the deadline tomorrow morning.
Islanders Looking To Have Some Veteran Defensemen At Camp:
Arthur Staple (the new Islanders beat writer) has reported that the Islanders are looking at having some veteran defensemen at training camp on try-outs. He mentioned that at least one of Paul Mara or Steve Staios will be attending Isles camp.
Mark Katic Suffers Torn Labrum After Dislocating His Shoulder:
In the rookie game on September 13th, Mark Katic suffered a dislocating shoulder. Unfortunately, it seems like its more serious than just a simple dislocating shoulder as it looks like he also suffered a torn labrum. He has opted for surgery and that means it will be a long time before we see him on the ice again.
Islanders Have Returned Art Bidlevskii:
The Islanders have returned Defenseman Art Bidlevskii to the WHL's Regina Pats. He has not earned a training camp invite.
Dustin Kohn Signs In Sweden:
The Islanders 2nd round draft pick in 2005 has officially left North America to go play overseas. He has signed with Örebro where another former Islander in Matt Keith has been playing. Kohn had been apart of the Islanders organization for the past four years.
