Islanders Roster:
1. G Mikko Koskinen Bridgeport (AHL)--Gets the start for the Islanders and should finish the game. He needs a great training camp to ensure his spot in the AHL, and that must start tonight. Very important game for the 23 year old goaltender.
GAME RECAP (9/12):
This was one awful game for Mikko, and honestly after that performance he looks like he belongs in the ECHL. His rebound control was atrocious and led to numerous goal scoring opportunities for the Bruins. He has absolutely NO confidence and it shows. After every single goal, he would get up and slam his stick on the ice and/or post in disgust. His fundamentals were extremely off as well, its almost like he doesn't know how to use his size to help him. If he wants to play in the National Hockey League again, he will NEED to fix these problems because right now he looks awful.
45. G Anders Nilsson Lulea (SEL)--Not Expected To Play
60. G Kevin Poulin Bridgeport (AHL)--Not Expected To Play
8. C Ryan Strome Niagara (OHL)--This game will not be the only time he has to show his skills, but it would definitely be nice to see him get off on the right foot. I am expecting a good game from him.
GAME RECAP (9/12):
He came exactly as advertised, his play was solid and it was easy to see that he has incredible potential. He displayed a ton of creativity and elusiveness in this game and if he can continue that play, he may just be able to pull out a few games with the Isles this season.
24. D Calvin de Haan Oshawa (OHL)--Tonight I would like to see him play a solid game in his own end, and maybe chip in a little offensively. I mainly want to see him looking comfortable in all three zones.
GAME RECAP (9/12):
Some very good moments in this game, and some not so good moments. He definitely showed some solid patience and made some good breakout passes, but he still looked raw.
25. LW Nino Niederreiter Portland (WHL)--Lets see him dominate tonight, everyone keeps acting like Nino Niederreiter is a shoe in to make the club and I really want him to prove that over the next few weeks.
GAME RECAP (9/12):
Hell of a game, he looked like a man amongst boys in this game.
33. D Benn Olson Cincinnati (ECHL)--Big physical, tough defenseman, who has bounced around between the AHL & ECHL. He is trying to earn an AHL contract with Bridgeport and I expect to see him involved in every scrum with maybe a few fights along the way.
41. C David Ullstrom Bridgeport (AHL)--I want to see him show some offensive flash tonight, but I'll be happy with an all-around solid game.
GAME RECAP (9/12):
Showed some great talent in this game, I was so impressed. He has great reach and when you combine that with his above-average stickhandeling he is able to dangle all over the place...there was one particular play that caught my eye. He was in the offensive zone, around the face-off dot and the Bruins were collapsing into the slot. It looked like there was no way he would be able to get the puck anywhere near the net, but all of a sudden he found a way to deke at least three Bruins, bring the puck to the back-door. Unfortunately, he tried to bury it, but Hitchinson was able to snag it.
46. D Matt Donovan U. Denver (NCAA)--He looked good at the end of last year with Bridgeport, but thats gotta continue. In this game, I am hoping to see him look more refined in his own zone with a bit more physicality.
GAME RECAP (9/12):
Really not his best game. Looked a little slow and out of position.
48. D Anton Klementyev Bridgeport (AHL)--He has played two seasons in Bridgeport, I would like to see him dominating in the Isles end. As an experienced defensive defenseman, he should be able to over think some of the Bruins more talented forwards.
49. RW Rhett Rakhshani Bridgeport (AHL)--He was the Sound Tigers best player last year and tonight should be a piece of cake for him. I am expecting a big night from Rhett.
GAME RECAP (9/12):
He looked really good up until he suffered a game ending concussion. I am hoping he is able to be back in time for training camp.
53. C Casey Cizikas Mississauga (OHL)--I really like this kid and his playing style is perfect for the NHL so I would like to see Cizikas look comfortable tonight. If he works as hard as he usually does, he should do fine.
GAME RECAP (9/12):
Casey Cizikas is a beast, he proved to me that he is going to be an NHLer very soon. He works his butt off and is always battling on the boards and in front of the net.
54. C Tony Romano Bridgeport (AHL)--One of the oldest Isles player here, he needs to finally put things together. Every game and practice is crucial for Romano if he wants to keep his NHL dream alive.
55. D Aaron Ness Minnesota (NCAA)--Of coarse I want to see his nice skating and good puck-moving ability tonight, but even more so, I would like to see a comfortable Aaron Ness in his own zone. His defensive zone coverage will be crucial tonight.
GAME RECAP (9/12):
Really good skill shown, despite some defensive miscues. Great skating was evident in this game.
56. LW John Persson Red Deer (WHL)--Honestly I have no clue what to expect, so this will be an interesting player to watch.
GAME RECAP (9/12):
Looked really good, I was pleasantly surprised.
58. D Brenden Kichton Spokane (WHL)--He should see some decent ice-time and I am hoping to see him continue his play in juniors last year over to this game.
59. LW Brett Gallant Bridgeport (AHL)--Plain and simple here, a tough guy who played in Bridgeport last season and who is trying to earn a spot with them again. Expect some fights when he's on the ice.
61. LW Mitchell Theoret Niagara (OHL)--I like this kid and he should be a noticeable presence on the ice tonight, I am hoping he plays well offensively.
GAME RECAP (9/12):
Threw his body around a bit and proved to be a decent presence on the ice.
62. RW Tyler McNeely Northeastern (NCAA)--He should be able to put up some good numbers tonight, my prediction; he will be one of the three stars.
63. D Art Bidlevskii Regina (WHL)--Physical defenseman who was able to play some games down the stretch with Bridgeport, he might be one of those under-the-radar type players who makes an impact tonight.
64. D Andrey Pedan Guelph (OHL)--He will be a beast tonight mark my words, I am excited about this kid. He's huge and has a lot of upside. From my experiences, I can tell you this kid has a man's body and he should be able to manhandle his opponents especially in this game.
GAME RECAP (9/12):
Looked really good, he played with a lot of grit and was able to establish a real physical presence on the Isles blue-line. He also had some solid play in the offensive zone especially on the point with some nice slap shots.
71. D Mark Katic Bridgeport (AHL)--He's gonna walk all over the Bruins tonight. I am expecting a lot of assists from Mark in this game.
77. LW Kirill Kabanov Lewiston (QMJHL)--Very important game for my boy K tonight. This kid has all the skills to be a star in this league and this training camp will be hugely important for his NHL career. Tonight is that first step and I am expecting him to show himself as a legit top prospect for the Islanders.
GAME RECAP (9/12):
Terrific game from KK, he worked tirelessly along the boards and was able to win a few puck battles. His vision on the ice is incredible. He is a serious offensive threat every time he is on the ice, but the most surprising thing to me was how much hustle he displayed.
81. C Justin DiBenedetto Bridgeport (AHL)--Will do exactly what he did last year, grind and work hard to get under the opponents skin and be effective.
GAME RECAP (9/12):
He is one amazing agitator, right and left he is creating problems for opponents and raising hell.
