NHL Training Camp Update: 9/17/2011
Rangers Will Not Have Wade Redden At Camp:Apparently the Rangers decided to not let Wade Redden attend their training camp this year. So its not bad enough that they stashed away the veteran defenseman in the AHL, they now must banish him from training camp as well. Redden still has three years left on his contract including this upcoming one, and the Rangers have decided to put the thirteen-year NHL veteran in AHL purgatory to finish out his contract. The Rangers should either buy-out his contract or pay a team to take him with draft picks or some other form of compensation. Letting him rot in the minors towards the end of his career, is not a respectful or appropriate way for them to deal with that contract.
Josh Godfrey Will Attend Ottawa Senators Training Camp:
The 23 year old defenseman was the Capitals 2nd round draft pick in 2007. He has spent most of his career in the ECHL. He recently signed a one-year contract with the Ottawa Senators AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators, so Ottawa is probably just seeing if an injury problem were to arise would he be a player they could sign if needed.
Maxim Gratchev Will Attend Ottawa Senators Training Camp:
The 22 year old winger was once a NYI prospect, but the club chose to pass on signing him. Since then he has not had much success. During the 2009-10 season he spent most of the year in the ECHL, where he put up good numbers, but when he would get called up to the AHL he looked out of place getting 9 points in 30 games. Last year he spent the season with Cherepovets Severstal of the KHL and was also unimpressive. He suited up for only 13 games and had no points.
Joey Mormina Will Attend Pittsburgh Penguins Training Camp:
At 29 years old, his role is pretty much defined; an AHL defenseman. During the 2008-09 season, he was under contract to the Penguins so he has been in their organization before and last year he played for the Penguins AHL affiliate, but on a contract excessively with them. My guess is that this is a similar situation as Josh Godfrey, and they just want to see if he is a viable option down the line.
