Isles Trade David Toews For Future Considerations

Trade Details:
NY Islanders trade David Toews to the Chicago Blackhawks for Future Considerations

PattyB Summary And Thoughts:
The Islanders traded forward David Toews to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for future considerations. David Toews has not turned out the way the NY Islanders had hoped he would. When he was drafted, people expected him to be a successful NHL'er, maybe not at the same level as his brother Jonathan, but a definite top-six forward. Unfortunately for the Isles and David, he has not lived up to the hype at all and has been a "bust". His play at UND was completely underwhelming and when he decided to leave college during his Junior year to play for the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL, it was expected that, as an overager, he would put up at least a point-per-game, but instead he had a measly 48 points in 60 games. He is not ready for the AHL and with no major junior eligibility left, his only option might be the ECHL. The Islanders had made it clear that they had no intentions of signing him as they did not have him attend their July Rookie Mini-Camp. With it obvious that Toews was no longer in the Islanders plan's, many people expected David Toews to join his brother in Chicago somehow and apparently it was for good reason. The move by the Blackhawks definitely seems like more for PR than their hockey club, but who knows maybe David will find his game playing in his brother's organization. From an Islanders perspective, its a great move. David Toews would have been released by the Isles had they not traded him so moving him for future considerations does the Islanders a few under-the-radar, yet important things. The first positive; whether the future considerations turns out to be a bud light for Garth to sip on or something a bit more important (depending on who you talk to...) a late-round draft pick, its still something and getting something instead of just releasing David Toews for nothing, is a good thing. Now the second positive; this (along with his trade of Bruno Gervais to Tampa for futures a few months ago) is a move that really helps grow Garth Snow's reputation amongst other GM's. Most of these future consideration trades are generally favors done and by doing them, Garth is able to get some good vibes going between him and other GM's. Now that good vibe will come in handy when one of these guys is looking to move someone that the Isles would want, and they approach Garth about it, instead of going to other teams first.
