Islanders Training Camp Update: September 20th, 2011
-- This is the first training camp under head coach Jack Capuano, and according to many Islanders players and prospects its quite a bit different than years prior. Capuano has been working them very hard, and apparently its a lot harder than how Scott Gordon ran training camp because many players have said this is the hardest camp they have had since beginning their tenure's with the NY Islanders.
-- Mitchell Theoret is still feeling the symptoms from his concussion he suffered a few days back. He recently returned to light skating and according to twitter he is hoping to be cleared by Wednesday, but just yesterday afternoon he was still feeling a bit sensitive to light so hopefully he is able to fully recover in the next day or so.
-- Andrew MacDonald is expected to be one of the Islanders best defensemen this season but unfortunately, there are some growing concerns surrounding his health. For the past few days he has been held out of workouts because of a sore hip...the same hip that was operated on at the end of last season. The Islanders NEED him to be healthy, so this situation is something that Islanders management should definitely keep a close eye on.
-- Its looking more and more likely that Islanders camp-invite, Steve Staios, will end up getting a contract from the team. With a long term injury to Katic, and with MacDonald still having some hip soreness, the Islanders will need some defensemen for insurance and Staios is starting to look like the guy to fill that role.
-- As I stated on twitter earlier today, I have one big bold prediction...Kirill Kabanov Will Make The 2011-12 NY Islanders (for at least a few games)
