Ducks Perspective:The Ducks were in need of a good two-way Center that could play a second or third line role and they have been actively looking for one since the draft. They found their guy in Cogliano, who seemed to fit that description perfectly and will be a huge asset to their club. At the young age of twenty-four, Cogliano has developed into a quick center that plays well in his own zone as well as in the offensive zone. He was used frequently on the PK and in tight defensive situations when he was with the Oilers and I expect the Ducks to use him similarly. The way he plays is something that will help the team quietly, but for the avid fan it will be appreciated mainly due to the fact that he's the guy that shows up everyday to work and always has the determination that fans expect from their players. He has NEVER missed a game in his four-year NHL career. Just so you realize how huge that is I'll say it again, in his NHL career he has never missed a game....has never had an injury keep him out, has never been scratched, nothing keeps him from playing hockey...he just shows up to work and plays what ever role the coaches ask without a question. In my opinion, he is the ideal 3rd line center and the price may have been a bit high, but I am pretty sure the Ducks fans will be more than pleased with their new acquisition.

Oilers Perspective:The Oilers have used Cogliano in a lot of situations throughout his tenure with the club, but it was time for them to move him. With the influx of young talent coming through the ranks they needed to start moving some bodies out and because of the recently drafted and signed, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, they needed to open up a center position for him. Also they brought in Eric Belanger, who can fill Cogliano's role on the PK and as the defensive center. All of this made him extremely expendable, and I am sure they are ok with moving him for a 2nd rounder in the 2013 draft. I have a feeling that between now and the 2013 draft (two-years away), we will see this pick moved to acquire some more NHL ready talent as the Oilers start to take the next step out of the re-build.
