Isles Re-Sign Colliton

Isles Re-Sign Jeremy Colliton To A 2-Way Contract
Islanders Press Release
UNIONDALE, NY, July 14, 2011 – The New York Islanders announced today that forward Jeremy Colliton has agreed to terms on a one year, two-way (NHL/AHL) contract. Colliton, 25, scored two goals and one assist in 15 games last year with the Islanders during his sixth professional season. The Blackie, AB, native also posted 45 points (18 goals, 27 assists) in 53 American Hockey League games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers to become the club’s all-time leading scorer with 176 points (66 goals, 110 assists) in 285 games. The Islanders drafted Colliton in the second round, 58th overall, of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He’s scored six points (three goals, three assists) in 57 career NHL games, all with the Islanders. Colliton spent the 2009-10 season in the Swedish Elite League, playing for Rogle Angelholm, before returning to the Islanders organization in 2010-11. He signed a professional tryout contract with the Sound Tigers on Oct. 21 and agreed to a one-year, two-way deal with the Islanders on Nov. 30.
PattyB Thoughts:
Jeremy Colliton's career, specifically with the Islanders, has been an interesting one. Following his draft selection, he was considered one of the better Islanders prospects. After a few years, that seemed to change and he was looked at like a "bust" and was written off by Islanders fans. Colliton was frustrated by his lack of success and opportunity at the NHL level and decided to sign in Sweden. Last season he came back to North America and decided to re-join the Islanders organization where the Islanders management became impressed with his ability to be a depth, first call-up, type player. He was able to fulfill that role, that he originally had no interest in having, so well that the Islanders decided today to extend his contract. I expect him to do exactly what he did last season and be a key player for the Sound Tigers and a good fill-in for the Islanders in the event of any injuries. I also think the fact that he has spent so much time in the organization makes him a good leader for the guys that are new to this club. I wouldn't be surprised if that leadership ends up putting him in the Captain role which would be fitting considering he is the all-time scoring leader for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
