The Montreal Canadiens trade Mathieu Carle to the Anaheim Ducks for Mark Mitera.

Ducks Perspective:
Both players are defensemen, but they are extremely different in their execution of the position. The Ducks have been looking for a nice puck-moving depth defenseman throughout the off-season so when they saw an opportunity to move one of their stay-at-home depth d-men for a more offensively orientated guy they jumped on it. Carle is the same age as Mitera and is at almost the exact same development stage. All this move did was help an organizational need, which is always a positive move.

Oilers Perspective:
Both teams in this deal used the same reasoning behind their decision. Just like the Ducks were looking for a depth offensive defenseman, the Habs were looking for a depth defensive defenseman. They too liked the fact that they were able to get a player who is in the exactly same position, development wise, as the guy they moved, but has a style of play that is lacking in their organization. Mark Mitera has some nice potential and in my opinion has more of a chance to make it to the NHL full-time than Carle. This type of under-the-radar type trade is what helps a team down the stretch when the needs that they have become more pressing.
