Zenon Konopka Signs With The Ottawa Senators
Zenon Konopka was an incredible, team orientated player for the NY Islanders. His presence in the locker room was widely recognized and appreciated by both fans and players alike. Today, his one year tenure with the Islanders has officially ended as he has signed with the Ottawa Senators. The Sens have been looking for a solid team guy that could bring the club together for awhile now and Konopka fits that role perfectly. Konopka is great in the locker room, but he also is very strong in the face-off circle as well as his performance with the gloves off. The deal is only for one year which I believe is mainly due to the Sens wanting to see how he fits in with the organization before going for a longer term. The salary is a bit higher than what he earned with the Islanders as he now is getting paid $700K. With the Isles he was getting $600K, but he definitely earned that one hundred thousand dollar raise. I wish all the best to "Z", who became a big fan favorite. He was all class and will really be missed by all NY Islanders fans and players.

Nathan Lawson Signs With The Habs
The Montreal Canadiens have signed Nathan Lawson to a one-year contract. He is a decent depth goaltender that had been a part of the Islanders organization for three years. Back in 2008-09, he was an AHL-All Rookie goaltender and put up some incredible numbers. Last season, he had his first real NHL opportunity and unfortunately he wasn't able to take advantage of that huge opportunity. He has a two-way deal so I expect him to be the starting goaltender for the Habs AHL Affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs.

Joel Martin who was under contract to the NY Islanders last season, has signed with Herlev of Denmark. Martin, 29, had a G.A.A. 3.54 and a Save PCT of .880 with Bridgeport of the AHL last season.
