Islanders Offer Contract To Alexei Yashin?
Years after the Islanders bought out Alexei Yashin and his huge, overpriced contract, rumors are going around that the Islanders are interested in bringing him back. He recently became a free agent when his KHL team, the St. Petersburg SKA, decided not to extend his contract. According to his agent, Mark Gandler, Yashin has received one offer from an NHL club. When a reporter asked Yashin's group if it was the Islanders who did in fact make the offer, Gandler responded by saying that he would rather not name which club was the one involved which seemed to just add more fire to the speculation. I highly doubt these rumors are true, but its interesting never-the-less. I don't believe he would be a good fit on Long Island, and at his age would just take up a spot that could have been better utilized by a young, up and coming player. Hopefully this is all just pure speculation, but normally there's fire when there's smoke so it might be something to keep an eye on in the next few days or possibly weeks depending on what he's trying to do.
