Short-Term Status:
He is set to become an Unrestricted Free Agent come July, 1st so his future with the club is in doubt but if he is brought back it would only be in a depth role. He would remain in Bridgeport but, if injuries hit he would be one of the first call-ups. He would likely be a top-four defenseman for the Tigers depending on who is down there. In my opinion, especially considering the influx of draft picks being signed, the Isles would be better off letting Reese walk.Long-Term Status:
Reese has no long-term status with the club and will likely continue being a fringe NHLer/First AHL Call-Up for the remainder of his career.

Review:
Dylan Reese was solid this season in most facets of the game. In Bridgeport, his game was solid and he put a ton of points through his 37 games down there (18). So if he had not been re-called and played a full season in the AHL, he would have (if he stayed on that same path) ended the season with about 39 points. Those are very good numbers and would have been a career year point wise for him. But, due to the mammoth injury problems the Islanders defense were hankered with he had to be re-called quite a few times. In his NHL action, he played a lot better than his time he was up last season. He got involved offensively well down the stretch but his transition from offense to defense was awful. Once in his own zone, he played better, not great, but, better. Like I said previously, what really irked me about his game was after he looked solid in the offensive zone, he would be totally overwhelmed once the puck got turned over and he needed to get back into position for the transition to defense. He might have earned a new extension (like I said in my short term analysis, I don't believe he should receive one) but it would have to be for league minimum and with a 2-way clause. He would likely remain in the same role he had this season. Season Grade (A+ to F-): C+
Had a slightly better than what I had expected, season but nothing incredible. He had some very good games (3 assists vs the Rangers) and some very bad games (6 games that he finished with a plus/minus of -2). That inconsistency brought what would have been a B grade down to a C+.
