2010-11 Season Stats:
New York Islanders               NHL:  GP: 64  G: 3  A: 13   P: 16   PIM: 35

Short-Term Status:
On July, 1st he will become a UFA so the Islanders will have to re-sign him if he is going to continue his career on Long Island. If he is brought back he would enter next season slotted in as one of the club's top four defensemen and would receive a lot of ice-time. Also I have noticed the Isles seem to use Radek to help rookies by pairing them with him and in the past it has been very effective so that would probably be the case next season as well.
Long-Term Status:
I believe at most he will play two more years in the NHL, not because he physically can't but due to the rumors going around that he might miss his home in the Czech Republic too much to continue his NHL career any further. Because of that, I am not sure he has much of a long-term future but there is a big chance that he will be brought back for at least one more season.

Review:
This season may have been Radek Martinek's best of his NHL career. Not only was his play impressive but it was one of the few times in his career, that he had a season that was not dramatically affected due to injuries. That lack of durability has been one of his biggest deficiency's throughout his career and the fact that this season he was able to get through the year without letting it be a factor is a major plus. He also was able to play a large amount of minutes per game as he finished the season with a 20:50 ATOI per game which came in at 3rd of all Islander defensemen. Another aspect of play that impressed me was his Penalty Killing which he became an expert at due to his terrific positioning and stick placement. Through the season he became the top PK defensemen as he finished the season 2nd on the team in Average PK Time On Ice for defensemen with 2:36 ATOI and led all Islander defensemen in overall PK Time On Ice with 166:39, which was 23:05 more than the next defenseman, Andrew MacDonald. Its very impressive and obviously telling in how important Martinek was for the Isles this season.

Season Grade (A+ to F-)B+
He had one of his most impressive season's of his career and was able to quiet his critics almost every night. Not only was his defensive play up to par of expectations but his offensive play was pretty solid as he had 16 points which is the most he's had in a season since 2006-07 (17 points).
