Short-Term Status: This upcoming season will be very important for Mark as he will need to try and prove that this injury that kept him out all of this year will not affect his play going forward. He will be looked at to step right back into his role as the number one defenseman and number one PP QB.
Long-Term Status: He is the backbone of this defense and this club overall. I would not be surprised if he is given the "C" going forward. He will be a major mentor for all the Islanders young defensemen and for last year's 1st round draft pick Nino Niederreiter, one of the few other Swiss hockey players.

Review:
Although people may look at this missed season and say "how can you get anything out of it to review?", I think it's pretty obvious what can be learned. We saw that Mark Streit is even more important to this club than anyone could have imagined. Night in and night out, the defense dearly missed Streit's presence and the hole left was a big reason for the Isles long losing streak early in the year. The Power Play was never at its best and it was definitely obvious what was missing. It was Streit and I believe going into next year, he must be healthy if there is any hope for a play-off birth.
