Isles 2006 3rd Round Pick, Robin Figren Signs One-Year Contract In Swedish Elite League
Robin Figren is heading to play in Europe as his little hope at an NHL career has officially been diminished to nothing. His career has been a massive disappointment, as he started out with two very good years in the WHL. But, following his time in the "dub"the Isles felt he was too good for another year in Juniors (he was too young for the AHL), so he was loaned to Djurgardens in the Swedish Elite League. There he put up mediocre numbers but played a solid overall game. Unfortunately, the next year when he came back to North America he was AWFUL for Bridgeport. He had an abysmal 7 points in 62 games with the Sound Tigers during the 09-10 season, but this season (10-11) was a little bit better for Figren. He increased his point totals to 30 in 74 games and played an improved 2-way game. It looks as though that little glimmer of hope at him turning into a NY Islander has been thrown by the wayside with the news that he has signed a one-year contract with Linköpings HC of the Swedish Elite League. This according to the press release put out by their club. This was previously reported a few months back by Michael Fornabaio who said that the Isles were not happy with Figren's progress and Figren was unhappy with the situation he has been in, in North America and that its likely that he would be leaving for Europe. Today, that looks like the exact situation.
