ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Tuesday the club has re-signed forward Patrik Berglund to a two-year contract extension. Berglund will be available to the media and fans in a unique conference web chat format on stlouisblues.com on Wednesday at noon CST. “Patrik took his game to another level this season and followed it up with an outstanding performance in the World Championships,” said Armstrong. “We expect him to be a major component of the Blues and continue to advance in this league.” Berglund, 22, completed his third season with the Blues in 2010-11 setting career highs in games played (81), points (52), goals (22) and assists (30) in addition to leading the club with a career best eight power play goals. The Vasteras, Sweden native also earned the Silver Medal with Team Sweden and was named to the tournament All-Star Team at the 2011 IIHF World Championship in Slovakia. Berglund dressed in nine games and ranked second among all skaters in points (10), goals (8) and plus/minus (+7). The 6’4”, 218-pound forward has appeared in 228 games for the Blues during his three-year NHL career accumulating 125 points including 56 goals and 69 assists. He was originally drafted by the Blues in the first round, 25th overall, of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. I love this deal for the Blues, Berglund is turning into one heck of a hockey player and at that price, its a great deal. He is going to be key for the Blues next year and for many more in the future.
