Corey Crawford Signs 3-Year Extension With Chicago

Crawford Gets 3 Year Extension From Blackhawks
The Chicago Blackhawks have re-signed goalie Corey Crawford to a 3 year extension worth $8 Million. He was set to become a restricted free-agent, but there were some rumors going around that a few teams were interested in approaching Crawford with an offer-sheet. That worry along with Chicago's desire to get him under contract in a long-term deal were the main reason's behind getting it done so early in the off-season. The $8 Million will be distributed as so; 2011-12 he will get $3.25 Million, 2012-13 he will get $2.25 Million, and the last year of his deal, 2013-14 he will get $2.5 Million. The money lay-out is peculiar to say the least, and it has to have some reasoning behind it that we are unaware of. The signing itself indicates that the Blackhawks believe Crawford will be their starter for a long time. Although he is a solid goalie, I am not sure if he is a Stanley Cup caliber net-minder and thats what this club needs right now.
