NHL:  GP: 39 G: 2  A: 0  P: 2  PIM: 165

Short-Term Status:
His contract is set to expire this off-season and to be perfectly honest I don't believe he will be brought back. With that being said, it's not something that is a "give-in". In the event he is re-signed, I would expect to see him either in the same role as this season or in a reduced role where he would split time between the AHL and NHL.

Long-Term Status:
If he is re-signed, it won't be for more than one season. He is not going to be with the Islanders for the long-term and its a stretch to say he will even be here for the near-future.

Review
Coming into this year I loved Trevor Gillies because at the end of last season he stepped in and was a good, honest tough guy, who protected his teammates effectively. Unfortunately, this year he seemed to have lost that honesty from his game and played a bit more dirty than one would have wanted. Now don't get me wrong, I still like Trevor Gillies and I will always love his epic handle bar mustache, but his antics this season (at times) were just down right wrong. He led the league in game misconducts with 3 and also led the league in games suspended with 19. Gillies is a incredible enforcer when he plays the game with integrity but things like taunting a player who is seriously hurt after you destroy him with a cheap hit and jump him, is just plain disturbing. Anyway on a better note, he had his first career NHL goal and had his first season at any level with two goals since his 2005-06 campaign. Because he is more on the roster for protection and enforcing than anything else, it is worthwhile to note that according to hockeyfights.com, his record in his nine fights this season was 6-3-0 which is impressive considering the players he went toe to toe with (Eric Godard x3, D.J. King, Jared Boll, Derek Boogaard, Shawn Thorton, Paul Bissonnette, and Sheldon Brookbank). I have a feeling because of the fact that it's only his 2nd season in the NHL and he was pulling the dirty, violent actions he was, if he remains with the Isles, the refs and the league will give the team even more trouble then they already are given.

Season Grade (A+ to F-): C-
His play went from being an effective, honorable enforcer to a cheap goon. I really was hoping he would be our enforcer for the long-term but right now I don't think he will be re-signed, and I don't particularly want him to be re-signed.
