He is a pending Restricted Free-Agent, but has already signed in Sweden for next year which means he will have no short-term status with the club.
Long-Term Status:
Although the Islanders could retain his rights by extending him a qualifying offer, I don't believe they will. He is going home to Sweden and if I had to bet, I would say he will never return.

Review
He has been a massive disappointment considering the expectations that were placed on his shoulders after his WJC performance in 2007. His first season in the AHL (2009-10) was AWFUL and gave most fans the thought that he will never come close to the big leagues. This year he did improve a bit and his point totals jumped up by a significant amount (23 points) but he again was not consistent enough to prove himself worthy of a contract, let alone a raise. A few rumors were going around earlier in the year that he actually thought he deserved a higher salary, and he was unhappy with the amount he was currently getting paid. That proved itself to be true when Robin signed in his home country, Sweden, and agreed to play there, next season. In all likely hood, Figren's career in North America is essentially over. It will be interesting to see if the Isles extend a qualifying offer to retain his rights which in my opinion is a no risk move, but doesn't have much impact either way.

Season Grade (A+ to F-): C+
He had a much better year than the previous one, but still was a little under what he needed to show. Now that he is leaving for Europe, any success he was able to achieve in his development will go to waste.
