Jonathan Ericsson Rejects a Multi-Year Contract Offer Worth Around $2 Million Per Year
According to a Swedish website, the Detroit Red Wings offered Jonathan Ericsson a multi-year contract worth around $2 Million a year. Supposedly he rejected it and said "I think I can make more money elsewhere" which leads you to believe negotiations have stopped and he is looking towards free agency.
Patty B Thoughts:
He is a decent defenseman who is still pretty raw. His mobility mixed with his size is a lethal combination and taking into account that defensemen traditionally develop slower than other players, he most likely will improve a lot more going forward. Detroit has a good amount of defensemen that would take his spot so in my opinion they will not pay more than they think he is worth and $2 Million is probably very close to their limit. I expect him to become a UFA come July 1st, and I am sure someone will pay him what he wants, especially when you consider how shallow the Free Agent pool is this summer.
