Avalanche And Sens Swap Goalies

To Senators:
Craig Anderson

To Avalanche:
Brian Elliott

Review:
It seems like year after year, the Senators are always looking for Goalies and this year is no different. But in an odd move, the Avalanche and the Sens swapped goalies one-for-one. I love this deal for the Senators as Craig Anderson has proven A LOT more than Elliot. Although this season has been rough for Anderson, the 29 year old goalie is still a bonafide NHL starter. If he is able to snap back to his solid play of season's past, this deal will be a home-run for the Senators. One really has to question this move from a Avalanche perspective as last season Anderson was a franchise goaltender for the club and now just one year removed from that, he has been traded for an average NHL goalie at best. Brian Elliott, although still young, has never been able to consistently hold down the starting job. At times he can play terrific hockey but then will go on long stretches in which he won't be able to stop a beach ball. I would not be comfortable going into big games with him in the net that's for sure.

Winner Short-Term: Even: although I think the Sens win this trade by a landslide overall, there is no doubting Anderson has been awful this season and even though the Senators have upgraded their goaltending it seems as if everywhere else they are down grading. The only positives I see from the Avs view is they save a good amount of money so if they are looking to add any players at the deadline this is now possible.

Winner Long-Term: Senators for sure, they are able to get a goalie that is only 29 and can be a franchise goaltender for them when/if he returns to his form of previous seasons.
