Fight Night On Long Island

The Islanders game friday night was one of the best things I have ever witnessed. The fact that we murdered the Pens on the scoreboard would have made it a great game in itself but the constant brawls made it magical. My friends Matt, Mike and Andrew (who are all not overly interested in hockey) went with me to the game and already have deemed it to be one of the best things they have ever witnessed and all have pledged to buy a Isles jersey. Games like this that have the Isles dominating and beating up opponents, is something very attractive to fans. The fact that yesterday I wore my Matt Martin Jersey out on the street and a handful of people yelled out of their car "lets go Islanders" (something is very rare to see for any team around here let alone the Isles) just shows that the fan base is jumping...So from an Islanders perspective Friday night has to be looked at as an extremely positive moment for this team.

Now since we established how great that night was for our team lets go over the repercussions of it all:

- Trevor Gillies will be suspended 9 games and will lose $24,193.53 in salary

- Matt Martin will be suspended 4 games and will lose $41,585.36 as a repeat offender

- The NY Islanders will also be fined $100,000

- The only discipline the Penguins are facing is to Eric Godard, who will be suspended for 10 games and will lose $40,322.25 of his salary.

The NY Islanders should be happy with Friday night because from my perspective it has changed the perception of the organization among the Islanders fan base for the better.
