Odd 2 Part Deal Sends Ian White To The Sharks

Ok lets start with the deal from earlier today:

To Hurricanes:
Derek Joslin

To Sharks:
Future Considerations

Then quickly after the two made another deal:

To Sharks:
Ian White

To Carolina:
2nd Round Draft Pick in 2012

Review:
So overall the Hurricanes are able to walk away with a 23 year old defenseman in Joslin that still has a lot of potential left and a 2nd round pick in next years draft. Joslin will probably be playing the rest of the season on Carolina's bottom pair but it wouldn't surprise me if he impresses and moves up the depth charts. The 2nd round pick will be useful, especially if they want to use it to trade for another asset. The Sharks also get a very good player in Ian White. White at only 26 years old is a legit top 4 defenseman and although he has not had a terrific season he is still putting up decent numbers. Last season he had a career high 38 points and it would not surprise me to see him get back to that style of play with the Sharks.

Winner Short-Term: Sharks, they get a useful top 4 defenseman to help them now and in the future.

Winner Long-Term: Even, both teams get very useful pieces.
