Yesterday's Players On Waivers:
Ales Kotalik (Calgary Flames) cleared waivers: No surprise here
Nikolay Zherdev (Philadelphia Flyers) cleared waivers: Very surprised to hear that, he is ultra talented and I would have thought a talent starved team would have taken a chance on him.
Marek Svatos (Nashville Predators) claimed by Ottawa: He has been all over the place this season going from the KHL to the St.Louis Blues to the Nashville Predators to now his newest team the Ottawa Senators. This claiming, now gives Ottawa the flexibility to move out Kovalev.
Craig Rivet (Buffalo Sabres) cleared waivers: Not too surprised by this because of the big contract but I had a slight thought he might be picked up.
Jeremy Colliton (NY Isles) cleared waivers: I'm happy he is still in the organization, Bridgeport could really use him.
Placed on waivers today:
Steve Bernier of the Florida Panthers, was placed on waivers. The Panthers have not been too smart in the waivers department (i.e. Grabner) and I am not sure this was a great move either. Bernier is 25 years old and is a strong, physical depth winger. He can bring a lot to the table but the one thing that will prevent team from claiming him is his $2M cap hit.
Mike Smith of the Tampa Bay Lightning, was placed on re-entry waivers. It will be interesting to see if anyone decides to take a chance on him and although last week I would presume the Islanders would pick him up, in the past few days Al Montoya has impressed so I would think its safe to say the Isles will not be a team interested.
