The Islanders Bad Luck Continues: Poulin Done For The Year
Of all the hardships the New York Islanders have faced in the past few months, none have seemed as heartbreaking as the freak accident that happened last night. The twenty year old top prospect in net, Kevin Poulin, went down with one of the oddest injuries I have ever witnessed. During warm-ups he got his foot stuck in a rut and went down very awkwardly. He was in extreme pain and the Isles were forced to start Mikko Koskinen, the 31st overall pick in 2009, who has struggled mightily in the AHL. Of coarse with the Isles luck, news came out today that Kevin Poulin will be out for the rest of the season with a dislocated left knee cap that requires surgery. Poulin has been a bright spot for the Isles and has been playing tremendously. His injury, along with the poor decision making of Rick DiPietro, knee injury to Nathan Lawson, and Evgeni Nabokov's bitchiness, the Isles are left with next to no NHL caliber goaltenders. In the coming days (or hours) there will probably be a trade announced that will bring a goalie to Long Island. Although its a big concern that the Isles really don't have any goalies to play out the next few weeks, its even more of a concern that Poulin's development may be dramatically affected which would be horrible news to an already good news starved Islanders fan base.
