Cory Stillman Leaving Florida?
According to Bruce Garrioch, the Florida Panthers are shopping around 37 year old winger, Cory Stillman. The team thats shown the most interest in Stillman, has been the Pittsburgh Penguins. There have been rumors that, even after they acquired James Neal, they are still out shopping for another winger. Stillman has had a terrific career but his play has digressed in the past few years. His point totals have steadily declined for the past 3 seasons and this year will be no different. Although he is definitely not the same player he once was, he is still an effective NHL'er. So far this year he has put up 23 points through 43 games and on a sub-par Florida Panthers team he has a plus-4 rating which is impressive. The experience he brings to the table would be an asset to a team like the Penguins who are going through a lot of adversity. One major problem that hurts the chances of a playoff team like the Penguins taking a chance on the veteran forward is how big of a cap hit he currently has. Any team that takes Stillman, would have to deal with his $3,533,333 hit and I am not sure if he is worth that money any more. Although this is his final year on this contract, it will be interesting to see if anyone decides its worth it to bring him in.
