Martinek On His Way Off The Island?

Radek Martinek at 34 years old, has played for the NY Islanders for his entire career and is one of the longest tenured current Islanders as he has been with the club since the 2001-02 season. He is a steady, positionally sound defenseman that's only flaw is his injury problems. This season has been one of Martinek's best and relatively injury free. At the end of this season he is due to become an Unrestricted Free Agent and with various sources saying he will return home to Czech Republic and not return to the NHL, it looks more and more likely that he will not be returning to the NY Islanders next season. There has been a lot of trade speculation as of late and its believed Martinek is going to be moved. Yesterday, he had a terrific game but this morning the Islanders announced he was out with a day to day injury. But if he was injured like they said one would assume he would not be practicing with full contact but this afternoon it was reported that he was. I may just be making stupid assumptions but it sure seems like the Islanders might be holding Martinek out possibly because of a pending trade. So it would serve Isles fans well to keep an eye open for a trade of Martinek in the near future.
