Rangers Acquire Bryan McCabe

Rangers Acquire McCabe For Kennedy and Draft Pick

To Rangers:

Bryan McCabe

To Florida:
Tim Kennedy
3rd Round Draft Pick in 2011

Review:
The Rangers were able to pull off a good value deal today bringing in defenseman Bryan McCabe. One of the Rangers' main goals heading into the deadline was to upgrade their power play. This move addresses that need and for a very little price. The 35 year old, McCabe is an established veteran and leader in the NHL. So far this year he has put up 22 points in 48 games and has a plus-3 +/- with the struggling Florida Panthers. His power play abilities and offense from the back end will be a huge help to this Rangers club. But, what makes this deal even better for the Rags is they gave up very little. Tim Kennedy has been in the AHL most of the season and is not a major asset which essentially means all the Rangers gave up of value was the 3rd round draft pick. To a Rangers team that's trying to win now, its an awesome deal. For the Panthers, even though I believe they could/should have gotten a lot more for McCabe, getting a 3rd round draft pick in a re-building year is nothing to complain about.

Winner Short-Term: Rangers for sure, they get a legit top 4 offensive defenseman that will help this team very much down the stretch for relatively nothing. He also is the perfect player to try and mentor Michael Del Zotto which can help the future of this team incredibly.

Winner Long-Term: Rangers again, McCabe will be important this year for the Rangers and if they choose to re-sign him, he will be effective next year as well. Also the fact that he can guide young Rangers will be huge for the development of these players.
