The NY Islanders have signed twenty-seven year old, PA Parenteau to a 1 year contract extension. The terms were announced at $1.25 million and presumably its a one-way deal. The opinions on PA seem to vary dramatically on who you talk to. Some people believe the only reason he puts up points is because he is on John Tavares' line and gets a lot of PP minutes and others believe he is an important piece of the core of the team. Outside the offensive zone Parenteau sometimes is a bit of a liability, yet some people seem to ignore that part of his play. For all the knocks that can be said, he is putting up very solid numbers. If he continues along at this pace he should finish the season at around 50 points. Although I am definitely not the biggest fan of PA Parenteau, I am not overly upset with this signing. Even though in my opinion the terms are a bit high, if he is used right he can be a very effective player and would be worth the money. Its just important that he gets used right, and how he is being used now is wrong. He should not be an immovable piece of the 1st line, if he was put on the 3rd line and given PP duties his overall play would be much more useful.
