Review:
The Flyers seem to be desperate to dump cap space and it was essential for them to move a big-name player. As I will also elaborate on later, it seems they felt they needed to trade more than one big-name player. Jeff Carter has been an intricate part of the Flyers since his draft year back in 2003, but with the signing of Ilya Bryzgalov just being announced, it was a necessity to move him. The deal is a big one and I think it may change the Blue Jackets franchise. They have been looking for a top-line center to play with Rick Nash for almost the entire time he has been a part of their club. With this acquisition, the Jackets automatically have one of the better top-line's in all of hockey. This will benefit both Nash and Carter greatly as it really gives them the highest chance of playing to their top abilities which is great news for the Jackets. Luckily for both fan bases, this is one of the rare times that both teams came out on top in a trade. The Flyers received a very, very, nice package in return for Carter. The only body they got back was Jakub Voracek, who was the 7th overall pick back in 2007. He is no slouch as he has had 45+ points for the past two seasons. He is only 21 and has a ton of upside that he has yet to reach. He will be a big part of this Flyer team for a long time. Along with Voracek, the Flyers received a very nice package of draft picks including the 8th overall pick in tomorrow's draft. It will be interesting, to say the least, who they will pick with a draft pick they weren't expecting to have. They also got the 68th overall pick, which is in the 3rd round, in this year's draft. Overall, this deal is nothing short of a blockbuster.
Short-Term Winner: Blue Jackets
Long-Term Winner: Flyers
