The New York Islanders Acquire The Rights To Christian Ehrhoff From The Vancouver Canucks
In a surprising turn of events, the NY Islanders have acquired the rights to Christian Ehrhoff, who is arguably the best defenseman who is a pending UFA. The Isles sent a fourth round draft pick in next year's draft for him, and in the next few days before July 1st, they will attempt to sign him. In my opinion, Garth Snow wouldn't have made this deal unless he intended to throw as much money and years at him until he accepted a deal. The Islanders are looking to be a competitive team next year and if they got Ehrhoff under contract it would be a huge factor in getting this team to the playoffs. Ehrhoff is a terrific defenseman, and would provide a huge spark from the back-end. Of all pending Unrestricted Free Agent Defenseman, Ehrhoff had the most regular season goals, with three more than Anton Babchuk's eleven, and the second most points overall with 50. He also has the best plus/minus of all pending Unrestricted Free Agents (all positions) with a plus-19 which is four higher than the next. If the Islanders can get him under contract, everyone better watch this team because they would be looking good.
