NHL Rumor Update: June 21st, 2011


Avalanche Looking For A Young Goalie
Colorado is looking for a young talented goalie, they have shown interest in Jonathan Bernier and Cory Schneider. They might make their move at the NHL Draft on Friday.


Oilers May Move Down From 1st Overall
From Ryan Kennedy of The Hockey News; "Have now heard from two sources that Edmonton may trade down from No. 1 pick. Florida a likely partner.", then to further confirm the rumor HockeyBreak stated "Possibilities of Edmonton and Florida swapping first round picks. Souray could be heading to the Panthers as well.". If this trade went down, it would be gigantic and shocking to the entire NHL. Friday is going to be one hell of an exciting day.


Flyers Need To Move Cap Space
Philadelphia needs to move salary and because they have no 1st round or 2nd round draft picks this year, they would like to move some of their higher priced players to get them some. Many names are being tossed around, but the most commonly mentioned is Jeff Carter. 


Blue Jackets Looking To Make A Big Acquisition
Columbus is looking to make some big moves this off-season and they have been the subject of many rumors saying they have been trying to acquire Jeff Carter from the Flyers. Its most certainly true and they are more than willing to move the 8th overall pick for him or another big-time Center.

Devils Are Very Interested In Brent Burns
 
New Jersey is trying very hard to acquire Brent Burns from the Wild, they are putting together a nice package for the Wild.

Islanders Leaning Defense In Draft

According to Katie Strang, it looks very likely that the Islanders will draft a defenseman with their pick on Friday. She stated in a tweet "had agent with client projected to go Top 10 in draft tell me last week he was convinced Isles would go D with 5th overall pick". Snow likes to keep things close to the chest so it would surprise me if the agent truly knows what the Isles will do, but its an interesting statement nevertheless. 

Blues Looking To Make Some Moves
Andy Strickland has reported that the Blues are looking to make some big-time NHL trades and really anyone is available aside from Pietrangelo, Stewart, Perron, Backes, and Berglund.
