D. Nick Holden (Blue Jackets): 1 Year Extension (2-Way)
-$675,000 Per Year (NHL) & $77,500 Per Year (AHL)
Thoughts:
Big depth defenseman who has done a very good job in the AHL and as a first call-up for the Jackets. If he gets a little more physical and learns how to use his big frame to his advantage, I don't think its a stretch to say he could possibly get an everyday NHL job as a bottom-pairing defenseman.
LW. Tim Kennedy (Panthers): 1 Year Extension (2-Way)
-Terms N/A as of today
Thoughts:
Good depth forward, who is proven at the lower levels that he can score goals. Unfortunately, he has some trouble translating that to the NHL. He is still young at 25, but this season will be huge for him. There are quite a few spots open on the Panthers roster so it wouldn't surprise me if he ended up making the team.
G. Henrik Karlsson (Flames): 2 Year Extension
-$850,000 Per Year (1st Year)
-$875,000 Per Year (2nd Year)
Thoughts:
Karlsson established himself this season, as a solid back-up netminder. His big 6'5" frame is impressive and he utilizes his size to his advantage. He covers a lot of the net and he almost always is able to stay in the right position. I look forward to seeing his trademark fist pumps for the next 2 years.
LW. David Desharnais (Canadiens): 2 Year Extension
-$750,000 Per Year (1st Year)
-$950,000 Per Year (2nd Year)
Thoughts:
Desharnais really established himself as a very solid NHL'er this season. He may be small, but the kid has some talent and he displayed it in his 43 games with the Habs. He put up 22 points and displayed a work ethic that was so good that it influenced the entire Canadiens' club. At an $850K cap-hit, its pretty much even for both sides.
D. Jay Leach (Devils): 1 Year Extension (2-Way)
-$525,000 Per Year (NHL) & N/A as of today (AHL)
Thoughts:
Decent depth defenseman who will likely spend most of the season in the minors with the occasional recall when the Devils need someone to replace an injured defenseman. He, most likely, will not grow any further as a player but every team needs depth.
